Alongside his generous and multifaceted artistic output, Gianfranco Chiavacci left behind a body of theoretical writings, an essential part of his research. These are not texts to accompany his works, but rather an original reflection on binarity as a logical and aesthetic principle, in dialogue with Max Bense's information theory, which anticipated the major international computer art movements as early as 1963. This highlights the unique position of his work, suspended between programmed art and computer art without coinciding with either.
Here we publish the most significant portion of these writings. For more information, [go to the publications page]. Meanwhile, we continue the work of cataloging the entire corpus.
